Our Mission

FilAm CreatorCon is a convention that celebrates the artistic achievements of Filipino American creators across all mediums. From comic book creators, poets and tattoo artists; to filmmakers, chefs, dancers and musicians; this yearly event hopes to foster solidarity, awareness and representation of Filipino Americans in the arts.

Our History

FilAm CreatorCon was founded in 2019 by Aaron Nabus (host of the Hall H Show podcast), after a chance meeting at San Diego Comic-Con 2019 between comic book creator, Scott Lost, community organizer and educator, Kirin Amiling Macapugay, where we pondered, “Wouldn’t it be awesome if there was a convention that showcased Filipino American creators?”

With some assistance from Matt Dunford (Chairman of San Diego Comic Fest and friend to nerds and geeks everywhere), a connection was made with Susan Vega, a librarian at the Chula Vista Library – South, a few months after SDCC 2019.

After an initial meeting between Aaron, Scott, Susan and Vince Alvendia (illustrator and comic book artist) to see if the library could be a viable venue for our inaugural event, it was all systems go!

And…then the pandemic hit.

After a couple of years and continued interest from the public, we have started to get organized and are aiming for a September 2024 event (finalized date and venue in San Diego, CA still to be determined).

Our planning committee has grown! We will be working hard to bring you a vibrant event with interesting guests and fun and educational panels to help give you a unique experience.

So, please stay tuned for updates about our inaugural September 2024 #FilAmCreatorCon event!
